You can experience wearing costumes of old times on the grounds of Wakayama Castle.
In addition to standard kimonos and furisode, you can choose a costume among rare armor, hawker, and ninja clothes that children will love.

Wakayama Castle is one of the castles belong to Tokugawa Gosanke, three privileged branches of Tokugawa family, listed in Japan’s 100 Best Castles, which is located on the mountain kept intact. In the entrance of it, you can borrow Japanese clothes, such as Kimono and Yukata as well as Samurai armor that is worth 500,000 yen made carefully by hand with more than 10 different materials including iron plates, iron wires and brocades. Wearing this can draw people’s great attention.

Cette fois-ci, je suis retournée visiter le château et voir la vue par beau temps. Je ne m’en lasse pas. Les jardins autour sont toujours très agréable. Mais, j’ai décidé de me compliquer la tâche et de faire cela en costume d’époque… oui, oui, en costume complet de guerrier samouraï. J’aurais pu choisir un kimono classique, mais ce n’est pas souvent que l’on a l’occasion de vivre une aventure de samouraï. Il est possible de louer différents costumes pour trois heures au bureau d’information touristique juste à l’entrée des jardins Momijidani, au même endroit où vous pouvez louer des vélos. Plusieurs costumes sont disponibles pour différents prix, mais celui-ci coûte 8000 yens.

L’habilleuse a d’abord vérifié que l’armure était bien à ma taille, mais cela passait tout juste. Par contre, les chaussures étaient à mon pied! L’habillage est compliqué, mais prend environ 15 à 20 minutes. Ensuite, ils vous aident à prendre quelques photos devant le château et vous pouvez vous promener dans le parc et jusqu’au château pendant trois heures.

S’habiller en armure de samouraï pour visiter le château de Wakayama

Autant vous dire que je n’ai pas été très loin, vu le poids de l’armure de samouraï et la chaleur (35°, humidité à 90%, youpi!) et les petits bouts de métal qui me rentraient dans le pied. Mais je me suis amusée comme une petite folle à prendre des photos et les touristes étaient fascinés par mon costume et j’ai donc pu parler et prendre des photos avec plein de gens! J’ai sué à grosses gouttes et j’ai dû retourner me doucher juste après, mais je me suis bien amusée!
